Design and Features

The BTR-60PB is an amphibious 8×8 APC that can also operate on land. It has a crew of two and can carry up to 14 fully equipped soldiers. The vehicle is powered by a gasoline engine that provides a top speed of around 80 km/h on land and 10 km/h in water.

The BTR-60PB has a welded steel hull that offers protection against small arms fire and shell fragments. The front of the vehicle is sloped to improve its ballistic resistance. It is equipped with two water propulsion units that allow it to navigate through bodies of water.

One of the notable features of the BTR-60PB is its armament. It is armed with a turret-mounted 14.5mm KPVT heavy machine gun and a coaxial 7.62mm PKT machine gun. These weapons provide the vehicle with a good offensive capability against infantry and light armored targets.

Combat History

The BTR-60PB saw extensive service during the Soviet-Afghan War, where it proved its reliability and versatility in harsh mountainous terrain. It was also used by Soviet forces in the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.

In addition to its service with the Soviet Union, the BTR-60PB was exported to many other countries and saw combat in various conflicts. It was used by the Cuban military in Angola, the Syrian military in Lebanon, and the Iraqi military during the Iran-Iraq War.
